Wonalancet Sled Dog Race - Wonalancet, NH, February 21 & 22nd

Sponsored by Tamworth Outing Club and North Country Mushers

Classes being offered:
              8 dogs 14 mile course
              4-6 dogs 14 mile course
              1-2 dog skijor (any interest?)

Schedule Time:
              8:00 mushers arrive/check-in.
              8:15- 8:30 Mandatory Drivers meeting/Volunteer meeting
              9:00 AM start with 8 dog teams going out first, 10 minute break, 4-6 dog teams go out.
             Sunday awards/results  ~ 20 minutes after last team finishes.

Entries:  Pre-registration only. $20 per team

Parking limit of 15 trucks (3 trailers)

Race course:  Multi recreational used snowmobile groomed trails, with hills and twists and turns. Road crossings are manned with volunteers as well as the turn around. The trail will not be closed to other users. It will be posted a week earlier on the trail to warn snowmobiles of the upcoming race.  Strongly encouraged that lead dogs wear something bright, mandatory that all drivers wear a brightly colored jacket/vest.

Mandatory Gear: Each sled should have a working brake, snow hook & sled bag. To be carried on the musher: Knife & Fire Starter. To be carried in your sled bag: working headlamp.

Purse & Prizes: There will be cash prizes for the top 3 placements in each class thanks to the Tamworth Outing Club!

The purse amount for the 2 classes for the top 3 finishers are:
1st - $200
2nd - $150
3rd - $100

Food: Food and beverage available by cash-only donation thanks to the TOC snack trailer!  Chilli, baked goods and hot drinks!  Porta potty on site.

Volunteering:   We will need volunteers to make this race possible. We need people to help hold sleds at the start, and people to help get the teams to the start. Would you like to help out? If so please e-mail Marsha for more info.

Accomodations: The Preserve at Chocorua has offered discount room rate (breakfast included) for mushers if needing a place to stay Saturday night.

Directions:

From the North travel south on Route 16 to Chocorua Village take a right onto 113 West travel 2.7 miles to Tamworth 4 Corners- take a right at the stop sign onto Route 113A/Chinook Trail and stay on that road until you reach the Chapel.
 
From Route 25 heading east from Moultonborough take second left (after traveling through South Tamworth)  - onto Route 113/Whittier Road -  0.3 miles, take next left onto Tamworth Road travel 2 miles to Tamworth 4 Corners, at the 4 Corners stay straight onto Route 113A/Chinook Trail and stay on that road until you reach the Chapel.
 
Route 25 heading East into Center Harbor at the second traffic light take a left onto Bean Road  for 7.8 miles to Center Sandwich.  At the stop sign go right and then take your next left at the Corner House Inn onto Route 113 for 3.6 miles.  Yield onto Route 113A and stay on that road until you reach the Chapel.

The race will be starting/finishing at the Chapel. The land owner has requested that we stay off the field and stay only on the snowmobile packed trail. So please use caution while at this race.
